Victorian Women Writers Project Statement: The goal of the Victorian Women Writers Project is to produce highly accurate transcriptions of works by British women writers of the 19th century, encoded using the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). The works, selected with the assistance of the Advisory Board, include anthologies, novels, political pamphlets, religious tracts, children's books, and volumes of poetry and verse drama. Considerable attention has be given to the accuracy and completeness of the texts, and to accurate bibliographical descriptions of them.

The PhiloLogic implementation of the Victorian Women Writers Project Database is based on automatic conversion of the SGML-encoded documents provided by Perry Willett, General Editor of the Victorian Women Writers Project, at Indiana University. The database (only a sample 18 titles of the VWWP texts) has 1.1 million words, 36,000 unique forms, in 18 works, listed in the online Bibliography.
