Celebrate 'Discovery, Collection, Memory: The Oriental Institute at 100'

The Library Society and the Oriental Institute invite you to a special event commemorating the Oriental Institute’s century of rediscovering the ancient Middle East. Susanne Paulus, University of Chicago Associate Professor of Assyriology and Tablet Collection Curator, will discuss the challenges of encountering the past in her lecture, “Fake? Discovering Ancient and Modern Forgeries in Cuneiform Manuscript.”
Join us before the lecture for a reception celebrating the Special Collection Research Center exhibition entitled “Discovery, Collection, Memory: The Oriental Institute at 100,” curated by Anne Flannery, Head of Museum Archives, Oriental Institute. The evening will also include an opportunity to view a temporary art installation by contemporary American visual artist Ann Hamilton entitled "aeon" in the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library.

Viewings of the installation will take place every 15 minutes. Interested guests should convene outside the entrance of the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library at 4:30 pm, 4:45 pm, 5:00 pm, or 5:15 pm
