Get immediate access to online editions of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post

In response to frequent patron requests, the University of Chicago Library is pleased to announce that it is providing immediate access to the online editions of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post websites for all UChicago faculty, students, and staff.

The New York Times

The Library’s New York Times subscription includes access to the New York Times online, the New York Times Book Review, the New York Times Magazine, and the New York Times mobile app available on Android and iOS devices. NYT Cooking and Games, including the Crossword, are not included. Accounts for the New York Times can be created by going to http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/h/nyt, typing in “University of Chicago” and following the on-screen instructions. Once your account has been created, you can go directly to https://www.nytimes.com or to the mobile app and log in with your credentials.

Please note that if you have a personal subscription to the New York Times that includes Cooking or Games, you will need to cancel your news subscription to take advantage of the campus subscription. To cancel the news, but keep Cooking and/or Games, please contact customercare@nytimes.com or 1-800-591-9233. Once the subscription is cancelled, you can then create an account for the campus news subscription by going to http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/h/nyt.

If you already have an NYT account through the prior Booth or Law School subscriptions, you can keep your same credentials, but will first need to go to http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/h/nyt, select “University of Chicago,” and then log in using your credentials.

1/11/22 update: If you encounter difficulty with account access, email the New York Times at edu@nytimes.com for assistance and include the email address that you used to create or try to create your NYT account. Some patrons have reported difficulties when creating accounts using Chrome and have reported success when switching to a different browser to do so.

The Wall Street Journal

The Library’s Wall Street Journal subscription includes access to the Wall Street Journal online, as well as to the WSJ mobile app. Accounts for the Wall Street Journal can be created by going to https://www.lib.uchicago.edu/h/wsj, signing in with your CnetID, and then selecting what type of user you are and filling out the remaining fields to create your account. Once your account has been created, you can go directly to https://www.wsj.com/ or to the mobile app and log in with your new credentials.

Access through databases

Content from these newspapers will also continue to be available through databases such as ProQuest and Factiva, which have extensive search capabilities and archives. Visit the library guide How do I find newspapers? for more information.
