Library Staff are Online is a new series providing a glimpse at the work University of Chicago Library staff are doing remotely.

Staff Member:

Greg Fleming

Job Title:

Business and Economics Librarian

Where do you work normally?

Regenstein Library

Where are you working from now?

Flossmoor, IL

What are you working on right now?

Right now I am focused on the collections and I have been buying ebooks when possible, both in response to requests from our patrons and to expand access to our collections while learning is happening online.

I am also taking the opportunity to review the bibliographies of faculty in the Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics and the Booth School of Business. Faculty members from both had contacted us asking about updates, and it is good to know they still find value in these web pages on the Library site.

Do you have any coworkers where you are working remotely? Partners, kids, pets, plants, etc.?

My wife, who is a librarian for the American Dental Association, and two cats, Molly (pictured) and Fuggles.

What activities or hobbies have you been engaged in when you aren't working remotely?

Planning my spring garden and riding my bike on the rare days that it's not cold or wet. We also observed an owl's nest in a neighbor's tree. The owlet seems to have fledged.

What do you miss about being away from the Library buildings or University?

The random conversations with the wonderful people I don't see every day. And the Botany Pond cam is great, but it doesn't replace seeing the ducklings in person.
