Returning Library materials if you are leaving the Chicago area

7/2/2020 update: The schedule of return times has been updated. Visit to see available return times and to schedule an appointment.

The Library has received a number of inquiries about how to return materials. Those who are staying in Chicago over the summer or returning in the fall are encouraged to keep the material loaned to you until the fall. Material checked out to you from the University of Chicago Library or Interlibrary Loan is not due earlier than October 2, so there is no need to return those materials before that date.

Please note that returned material will not be processed immediately and will remain on your account until staff are available to check them in safely. In addition, please be aware that materials cannot be returned during Paging & Pickup appointments.

If you cannot return materials on the dates provided or keep them until fall, please Contact Circulation staff to discuss your situation. We will do our best to find a solution.
