Work Schedule: 10 hours per week between 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Monday-Friday

Student positions at the University of Chicago Library are available only to University of Chicago students.

General Summary

This position will be staffing the new Mobile Information Desk service in Regenstein Library. The employee will report to the Head of Research and Instruction Services and will be responsible for a number of tasks, including:

● Greeting patrons in the lobby of Regenstein

● Responding to directional questions

● Guiding patrons to services and spaces in Regenstein Library

● Instructing patrons on the use of the self-checkout kiosks and printing

● Assisting patrons having trouble finding books in the stacks or reading rooms

● Guiding patrons with using Ask a Librarian online and setting reservations with Directing patrons to subject specialists for consultations opportunities

● Providing basic reference support such as directing patrons to Library Research Guides or looking for specific items in the Library Catalog

● Submitting tickets to report problems with public computers

● Recording statistics on services provided to patrons for assessment purposes.

● Assisting with tours of Regenstein Library during working hours.

● Helping with special Library events or programs as needed during working hours


● Degree of computer literacy required

● Ability to sustain close attention to detail required

● Ability to work independently with a willingness to a reach out for assistance as needed

● Familiarity with University of Chicago Library services or spaces

● Library and/or customer service experience preferred
