Enrico Fermi and His Legacy
Private Event in partnership with the Physical Sciences Division (November 1)
Fermi was a Nobel Prize winning physicist and led the team at the University of Chicago to build the world's first nuclear reactor known as Chicago Pile-1. This special occasion will be an opportunity to view new artifacts from Fermi's life and work recently added to the University Archives and features a display showcasing pieces from the Library's Fermi collection, as well as talk by Physics faculty.
This is a private event exclusively for the Library Society and alumni and donors of the Physical Sciences Division.

Capturing the Stars: The Untold History of Women at Yerkes Observatory
Private View of Exhibition and Lecture (November 2)
Capturing the Stars illuminates the history of women at Yerkes Observatory and demonstrates how their labor contributed to the advancement of the science of astronomy. Visitors will learn how and why women came to Yerkes, about their scientific work, and their lives after Yerkes. In so doing, this exhibit introduces visitors to the history of astronomy and women’s history in early twentieth century America while also emphasizing the importance of Yerkes Observatory within a broader, global scientific community.
This is a private event exclusively for the Library Society to enjoy a reception and talk by Andrea Twiss-Brooks, Library's Director of Humanities and Area Studies and co-curator of the exhibition, alongside an opportunity to see Capturing the Stars.
