The Library Responds to 2010 Survey Results

You told us what you wanted; we're listening! The Library has taken the following actions to address specific areas targeted for improvement by the 2010 Survey of Graduate and Professional School Students. We thank all those who participated in this and other surveys.

You would like the Library to improve the collection by adding specific titles and increasing its holdings in specific subject areas.

• The Library is asking its subject specialists to review all your comments about specific subject areas with a view towards meeting our users’ needs.
• The Library has a Purchase Request Form where users can request that the Library purchase specific titles.

You would like the Library to increase its online collections, especially e-journals and e-books.

• The Library is determining the availability of e-books through our publisher and aggregator booksellers with a view towards increasing those collections.
• The bibliographers for Business and Economics, Psychology and Human Development have  revised their collection policies to favor electronic over print when adding new titles.
• The selectors in science and medicine have also changed their profile to favor e-books over print. Other bibliographers are reviewing their collection development policies as well.

You would like the Library to purchase more copies of frequently recalled and/or missing books.

• The Library is alerting appropriate staff when items have multiple recalls.
• The Library alerts staff when items have been declared lost so that they can replace as needed.

You would like the Library to implement policies and make physical changes to improve its study spaces.

• The Library is implementing a User Rights and Responsibilities for Creating and Sustaining a Scholarly Environment to regulate noise and behavior issues impacting its study spaces.
• User input will be carefully considered in the renovation of the Regenstein Reading Rooms and the design of the study spaces of the new Mansueto Library.
