Greenland Expedition

Among the first departments established at the University of Chicago was the Department of Geology. President Harper successfully lured Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin away from the University of Wisconsin (where he served as President from 1887 until 1892) with promises of Another notable field expedition was taken by Rollin D. Salisbury when he accompanied Lt. Robert Peary's brother in 1895 to search for Peary, H.J. Lee, and Matthew Henson who had been left behind to winter over in 1894.
