Hebraica at the University of Chicago

Hebraica at the University of Chicago

On the occasion of the 175th meeting of the American Oriental Society, this exhibition honors the long tradition of Hebrew scholarship at the University of Chicago, which was brought to Chicago by founding president William Rainey Harper, a Semitic scholar and teacher of Hebrew. The books in the exhibition were selected to provide an overview of the scope of the Library's holdings and to indicate the variety of sources which exist. In addition to biblical exegesis, the works include the writings of both Jewish and Christian Hebraists and works on travel and history, mysticism, and law.
