Science Through the Ages: A Selection of Pioneer Works in Science, Technology, Medicine in the Collections of the John Crerar Library

Science through the Ages Exhibit

A major objective of this exhibition was to demonstrate the "progressive" nature of science and the tendency of science in general and its branches to expand man's knowledge of the natural world. In so doing the selections also reveal the breadth and depth of the collections in the history of science at the Crerar Library, now part of the University of Chicago. The exhibition recognizes the importance of periodicals and publications of academies and societies, such as the Acta Eruditorum (Leipzig, 1682-1731), the first independent scientific periodical, to the advancement of science.
