Michelson was the first American to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics. His papers include correspondence, a notebook on the Velocity of Light Determination, an inventory of Michelson material held at Mount Wilson and Palomar Observatories, reprints, biographical material, cancelled checks, drafts of speeches, and press releases from the University of Chicago.
