Rag Paper

Compare brittle wood pulp paper to long-fibered pre-19th century century linen and cotton rag paper. These rag papers are flexible and strong and have not discolored. Due to the superior quality of traditional papermaking supplies and practices, these papers have better tensile strength and fold endurance even after a much longer life and more use. Modern papers like those made at Griffen Mill Fine Handmade Paper emulate traditional papers and are commonly used in conservation.
