This publication was produced as a "picture story of the construction of Chicago's First Subway." It begins with a letter from Chicago Mayor Edward J. Kelly, written on October 16, 1943, the opening day of the Chicago subway system. The publication also includes a description of the "Five Star Features": ventilation, signals, illumination, drainage and escalators.
