The Cleaner Air Committee of Hyde Park-Kenwood, organized in April 1959 by a group of women led by Laura Fermi, sought to educate the community to the dangers posed by air pollution as well as to monitor local smoke emission violations. The organization published and distributed educational materials, and its members spoke before school and community groups, testified at public hearings, reported violations to the city Department of Air Pollution Control, and observed at court hearings for pollution violators. The Committee disbanded in 1972.
Contains membership lists, minutes, correspondence, clippings, statements made at public hearings, and publications.
