The Century of Progress International Exposition took place in Chicago, Illinois from May 1933 to October 1934. Its exhibits and temporary architecture attracted tens of millions of visitors.
The Century of Progress International Exposition Collection contains souvenirs and print materials (postcards and a map) distributed at the exposition, as well as individual visitors’ records of their experiences: the travel journal of Marian Haskell Engelhardt, a woman from Bismarck, North Dakota, and a book of photographs from the exposition belonging to William A. Griffith. Also in the collection are an early twentieth-century book of color photographs of the University of Chicago, and a photograph of the 1916 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.
