Scope Note

A book into which unlabeled photographs have been pasted. The photographs depict the Suez Canal from various vantage points, with and without water traffic. Some of the photos do not depict ships, instead showing the machinery used to build the canal, its workers, and the lodgings and other buildings beside the canal in which workers lodged. One picture depicts freight being prepared to load onto boats and traverse the canal. Some show individual ships, while others take a wider scope and depict several ships moving through the canal. One of the last images is a map of the canal labeled in French. There is also a picture of a camel and its guide.
