Abstract:

Morris Finder, Professor Emeritus of English Education, School of Education at the State University of New York, Albany. Finder published a biography Ralph W. Tyler, influential education scholar and University of Chicago professor. Finder's correspondence with Tyler comprises the bulk of the collection.

Biographical Note

Morris Finder received his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Chicago in 1960 and went on to teach at institutions in the United States and abroad. He retired from the State University of New York in Albany. In 2004, Finder published Educating America: How Ralph W. Tyler Taught America to Teach, a biography of Tyler that charts his career and influence upon education and public schooling in the United States.

Scope Note

The bulk of the collection is comprised of Finder's correspondence with Ralph W. Tyler from the mid-1980s to 1990s. This correspondence covers details of Tyler's career and reveals his thinking on various education policy issues. Also included is Finder's correspondence with others about Tyler as well as copies of Tyler's correspondence with President Truman.
