When quoting material from this collection, the preferred citation is: University of Chicago. Division of the Humanities. Comprehensive Examinations. Records
Early in 1936 Richard P. McKeon, Dean of the Humanities Division, began collecting the Comprehensive Examinations given by the Departments of the Division. This was the result of a decision of the Committee on Policy of the Division to require the Departments and Committees to file their comprehensives with the Dean. This collection contains the copies of those examinations collected by Dean McKeon and his successors.
The Division of Humanities Comprehensive Examination Records contain copies of examination questions given by Departments in the Division between 1935 and 1956.
