The Library Quarterly was designed as a "journal of investigation and discussion in the field of library science." The journal was established in 1931 by the Graduate Library School. It was partially funded by a grant from the Carnegie Corporation.
The Library Quarterly Records consist of correspondence between the contributors and the editors. Occasional articles, if found together with the correspondence, have been included in some of the contributors' folders.
