Biographical Note

Anna Gwin Pickens was born on August 23, 1901 in Mississippi.

Pickens entered the University of Chicago in 1919, graduating in 1923 with a Ph.B. As an undergraduate she was active in several campus organizations including: Esoteric, Nu Pi Sigma, Dramatic Club, Portfolio, and the Y.W.C.A.

Pickens received an A.M in history from the University of Chicago in 1948. Her A.M. thesis was titled, "The Murray Colonies of Bolivia."

The Anna Gwin Pickens Papers consist of correspondence, University of Chicago handbooks and course books, a passport, notes, photographs, and miscellaneous materials relating to Pickens undergraduate years at the University of Chicago.
