The South Side Academy was founded in 1892 and was located (from 1899) at 5467 Lexington Avenue (now University Avenue) in Hyde Park. In 1902, the faculties of the South Side Academy, the Chicago Manual Training School, and the John Dewey Laboratory Schools merged, and the following year University High School opened on the University of Chicago campus.
The South Side Academy Records contains five receipt books recording various expenditures of the school, dating from 1900-1901, and ledgers detailing student coursework and grades, dating from 1897-1903.
