The collection has been organized into five series: Series I: Student Activities - General, Series II: Student Union, Series III: Reynolds Club, Series IV: Fraternities and Inter-Fraternity Council, and Series V: Oversized. It contains booklets, bound volumes, brochures, correspondence, directories, event programs, invitations, fliers, meeting minutes, newspaper clippings, and official administrative reports, and posters.
Series I: Student Activities - General, focuses broadly on university policies and programs regarding student life, including student clubs, events, and publications, not accounted for in the larger organizations elsewhere in the collection. Series II: Student Union, details the work of Student Union in the mid-twentieth century, with a heavy emphasis on event organization and the evolving purpose and role of Student Union on campus. Series III: Reynolds Club, presents early histories, constitutions, and formal records from shortly after the club's founding. Series IV: Fraternities and Inter-Fraternity Council, details the inner workings of fraternity life at the University, including membership records from the early twentieth century as well as official regulations and reports regarding fraternity organization and actions. Series V: Oversized, includes bound volumes, newspaper clippings, and event posters related to material from the other four series.
This series provides a broad picture of Student Activities at the University of Chicago through student policies, handbooks, and other official documentation as well as material from student organizations and events on campus.
In Subseries I: Student Clubs, folders are organized alphabetically by organization name and contain constitutions, correspondence, event fliers, records and reports related to the respective club. Note that materials from graduate specific clubs may be found in Folder 21: Graduate Clubs - Various.
Subseries II: Student Events, is organized by event type (“Visual Arts,” “Dances and Formals,” “Draft Related” etc.). This subseries primarily contains fliers and posters. For oversized material, see Boxes 9-10.
Subseries III: Student Publications, includes The Baby Phoenix, Frosh and Soph, The Daily Maroon, Cap and Gown, and material related more broadly to student publications on campus.
Materials date from 1893 to 2019.
Student Union began in 1946 as a democratically run student organization with the expressed purpose of curating a stronger campus community and tending to the holistic wellbeing of students through recreation and extracurricular activities. The series details Student Union's activities throughout the mid-twentieth century and includes official reports, correspondence, articles, meeting minutes, newsletters, event information, as well material from orientation Board and Student Union's student activities focused publication: Forecast. Materials date from 1939-1964.
The Reynolds Club was established in 1903 through financial gifts from Joseph Reynolds Joseph Reynolds, as a student club house to promote comradeship, conversation, and collaboration between students. This series contains booklets detailing the Reynolds Club history, a copy of the constitution, event programs, a guest book, and meeting minutes from the early twentieth century. Materials date from 1903 to 1923.
This series details the official life of fraternities on the University of Chicago campus. It includes articles, academic and financial reports, constitutions, correspondence, directories, event fliers, meeting minutes, membership data, and newspaper clippings.
Subseries I: General Information and Interfraternity Council contains material related to the IFC and fraternity administration and organization more broadly.
Subseries II: Rushing, Fraternity Directories, and Membership, includes documentation specifically related to rushing regulations and records, the fraternities active on University of Chicago campus, as well as fraternity membership reports. IFC membership reports regarding specific fraternities can be found in their respective fraternity folder, while reports that include data from multiple fraternities have been complied in Box 8, Folder 2.
Materials date from 1921 to 2018.
This series contains oversized bound volumes, newspapers, and posters related to the material found throughout the collection. Series V has been organized into folders corresponding to folder titles from the rest of the collection. Materials date from 1926 to circa 2009
