Retrieving Documents and Limiting a
Search:
To retrieve a document, enter oedipe in the Title
Field (leave the Search
Texts for: field blank). Click on the title to go to
the digital table of contents. To limit a search, leave oedipe
in the Title Field and enter
Sophocle in the Search Texts for: field.
Limiting a Search by Multiple
Fields:
To search the early works of Voltaire enter voltaire in the Author
Field and a date range in the
Date Field: 1704-1720. Enter serment in the Search Field.
Phrase Search:
Search the phrase: prodigue le mensonge
Phrase with Boolean OR:
Search the following: faux miracles|prodiges
Proximity Same Sentence or
Paragraph:
First search the phrase: SERMENT FIDELITE
Now search the phrase again: SERMENT FIDELITE in the Same
Sentence
Now do the same with Proximity - Same Paragraph. Make sure you have
the Concordance Report format turned on.
Wildcard Searching
For simple truncation, search vocab.* with KWIC Report
turned on.
Search for serment ro[yi] to find alternate spellings. This
can also be found by entering
serment ro.?.
To look only for proper nouns enter: #auguste.
Wildcards for discovering textual emendations: Search
sca.*nt with Frequency by Title report clicked on.
Images
For a linked image search the phrase: petite planche
Notes
There are several types of notes in this database. They are numbered
differently. Here are sample searches for different kinds:
- Voltaire's Notes. Search phrase: sieur Arnou and click on paragraph
- Variants. Search phrase: DONNE SON SANG and click on page for the
first occurrence.
- Editorial Apparatus. Search phrase: Epouse de Catilina and click
on page or phrase: seeming compliances.
