Construction Notice

The Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) at the University of Chicago Library will close for a three-week period in December 2009 to allow for construction work in both our public and collections storage spaces.

SCRC will be closed beginning Monday, December 14, 2009 and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Beginning December 14, construction of the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library will move into the Regenstein Library as the contractor creates a new entrance route to Mansueto across the first floor of Regenstein. This work will affect Special Collections access routes, public service areas and staff offices. Service disruptions may last until the opening of the Mansueto Library, scheduled to open in Winter quarter 2011. During construction we may experience reduced hours and limited seating availability. Additionally, some collections – or parts of collections -- will not be available November 18, 2009 - January 18, 2010. Please see our Inaccessible Collections page to see a list of affected collections and our Construction Update page for more information.

The Special Collections Research Center supports the research needs of University of Chicago students, faculty, and staff, and of individuals outside of the University of Chicago community. Responses to queries submitted in writing are provided as staff resources and time permit; they usually are answered in three to four weeks. Priority for this service is given to students, faculty, and staff of the University of Chicago, whose questions are usually answered in 1-2 days. To assure a more complete response, please complete the following Special Collections Request Form.

Requests for Permission to Publish from Special Collections materials should be made using our printed materials permission request form or our archives and manuscripts permission request form, depending on the type of material.
