How will I be notified of overdue Library materials?
All notices will be sent to the address that you have supplied to the Library, which you can verify online by going to the online catalog and select "My Account". Enter in your barcode and PIN. You are responsible to supply the Library with a current address so that you can be contacted if one of your items is recalled.

What will cause my borrowing privileges to be blocked?
Borrowers who owe the library $100.00 or more will not be allowed to borrow from the library's collections until these charges are resolved. Please note that your privileges will be blocked as soon as you reach $100 in fines or fees. This can happen any time during the quarter.
When are restrictions placed on my account?
Current and former students who owe the Library $100.00 or more at the beginning of the sixth week of the quarter will be restricted with the University Registrar, which will prevent future enrollment and access to other University services (including transcript requests) until these charges are paid.
How much are library fines and how high can they accrue?
Lost book charges: Replacement fees for lost books vary depending on the location of the item. The following amounts are the minimum the Library will charge:

Non-Refundable Processing Charge: The Library will charge $25 per volume in addition to the item replacement cost. This fee applies to all Lost Book charges.
Replacement of Lost Books: If you return books that are lost, the Library will credit your account for the amount of the book. If you are unable to return the book, the Library will also accept an exact copy of the lost book as payment. The replacement copy must be approved by the bibliographer for that subject, and the $25 processing fee will still apply.
Preservation fees for damaged books: If you return a book in damaged condition, or with multiple post-it notes, the Preservation Department may assess you a fee based on the amount of damage and cost of repair. Such fees may range from $5 (for post-it notes only) or $25 (for other damage) to the entire cost of the book (see Lost Book Charges, above).
How do I appeal fines or claim that an item has been returned?

Faculty members and staff with "academic" appointments receive indefinite borrowing privileges. Materials do not have a due date unless the faculty member has a limited contract date. If the faculty member does have a limited contract, the due date of the material is set to the expiration of the contract. Materials do not have to be renewed by indefinite borrowers.
Northwestern faculty, students and staff have revolving due dates. These loan periods are identical to the loan periods established at Northwestern for their users.
Materials can be renewed once by Northwestern Borrowers.
University of Illinois at Chicago faculty have revolving due dates. These loan periods are identical to the loan periods established at UIC for Chicago faculty.
Materials can be renewed three times by UIC Faculty.
