Due Dates for Special Borrower Groups


When are books due?

Materials borrowed or renewed between the Monday prior to the start of the academic quarter through the next to the last Sunday of the interim following that quarter are due on the first Friday of the following quarter. Thus, books checked out during

Materials may be renewed 3 times by quarterly borrowers (students, staff, alumni, affiliates) before they must be brought into the library for return or subsequent renewal. More information on renewals.

MATERIALS CAN BE RECALLED FROM ANY BORROWER AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR, REGARDLESS OF BORROWING TYPE OR LOAN PERIOD.

How will I be notified of overdue Library materials?

All notices will be sent to the address that you have supplied to the Library, which you can verify online by going to the online catalog and select "My Account". Enter in your barcode and PIN. You are responsible to supply the Library with a current address so that you can be contacted if one of your items is recalled.

What notices will I receive?

Friday, 1st week of quarter: 

Due date for regular materials

Monday, 2nd week of quarter: 

Library sends first overdue notice

Monday, 3rd week of quarter: 

Library sends second notice to borrowers with overdue materials

Monday, 4th week of quarter: 

Library sends final notice listing overdue materials

Monday, 5th week of quarter: 

Library suspends borrowing privileges for users with materials still overdue from 1st week. These materials are declared lost and borrowers are billed for replacement costs.

Thursday, 5th week of quarter: 

Library sends borrowers a summary statement showing all lost materials and monies owed the Library.

Monday, 6th week of quarter: 

Current or former students owing the Library $100 or more on this day are restricted with the University Registrar, which prevents future enrollment and access to other University services (including transcript requests) until these charges are paid.

What will cause my borrowing privileges to be blocked?

Borrowers who owe the library $100.00 or more will not be allowed to borrow from the library's collections until these charges are resolved. Please note that your privileges will be blocked as soon as you reach $100 in fines or fees. This can happen any time during the quarter.

When are restrictions placed on my account?

Current and former students who owe the Library $100.00 or more at the beginning of the sixth week of the quarter will be restricted with the University Registrar, which will prevent future enrollment and access to other University services (including transcript requests) until these charges are paid.

Indefinite Borrowing

Faculty members and staff with "academic" appointments receive indefinite borrowing privileges. Materials do not have a due date unless the faculty member has a limited contract date. If the faculty member does have a limited contract, the due date of the material is set to the expiration of the contract. Materials do not have to be renewed by indefinite borrowers.

MATERIALS CAN BE RECALLED FROM ANY BORROWER AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR, REGARDLESS OF BORROWING TYPE OR LOAN PERIOD.


Northwestern Borrower Due Dates

Northwestern faculty, students and staff have revolving due dates. These loan periods are identical to the loan periods established at Northwestern for their users.

Materials can be renewed once by Northwestern Borrowers.

MATERIALS CAN BE RECALLED FROM ANY BORROWER AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR, REGARDLESS OF BORROWING TYPE OR LOAN PERIOD.


University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Faculty Borrower Due Dates

University of Illinois at Chicago faculty have revolving due dates. These loan periods are identical to the loan periods established at UIC for Chicago faculty.

Materials can be renewed three times by UIC Faculty.

MATERIALS CAN BE RECALLED FROM ANY BORROWER AT ANY TIME OF THE YEAR, REGARDLESS OF BORROWING TYPE OR LOAN PERIOD.
