Electronic reserves are scanned copies or electronic documents that have been made available for students registered in a course. Many book chapters and journal articles are available as E-Reserves.
Most electronic reserves are in PDF format, and require the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to read or print.
For Mac users, a known bug prevents Safari from accessing Library Course Reserves when using Adobe to view PDF files. See Viewing Reserves Using Safari for instructions on how to resolve the problem.
If you have questions about accessing E-Reserves, please Contact Library Course Reserves.
Physical reserves are books or other items that are held at the circulation desks of the various campus libraries.
Certain policies have been put in place in order to ensure equal access to material for all students in a course.
The library keeps some items on reserve year-round, even when they are not requested for a course. Permanent reserves are generally physical items, and therefore fall under the same physical reserves policies that apply to course reserves.
You can find permanent reserves items by searching the Library Catalog or Lens. Since permanent reserves items are not associated with a course, they are not listed in Chalk.
Crerar Library also maintains a list of Core Science Texts on Permanent Reserve, organized by subject. Eckhart Library maintains a similar list of items on Permanent Reserve at Eckhart.
Instructors or Teaching Assistants can submit reserves requests directly through Chalk, as well as import course reserves lists from previous courses. See Using Chalk to Submit Course Reserves for detailed instructions.
Course material must adhere to the Library's reserves copyright policy.
All courses are required to have a Chalk page in order to place material on reserve. To establish a page, use the Chalk Course Request Form.
Contact Library Course Reserves using our online form if you have a question or comment about course reserves.
