Materials that are placed on reserve at the Library for courses currently being taught at the University can be found in the "Course Reserve" area of a course's Chalk site; both print materials and electronic reserves are listed. Print materials are available for checkout at the reserve locations listed below. Articles, problem sets, lecture notes, and short book chapters are often available. Additional information is available from the Chalk and Course Reserves page and from each library branch hosting course reserves. Chalk
Chalk, the University's "e-Learning environment," provides access to course-related information, such as syllabi, course documents, and discussion rooms. Access to course-related material is generally restricted to instructors and students enrolled in the classes.
Course Rerserves are now made available through Chalk. To access course reserve materials, go to http://chalk.uchicago.edu and log in with your CNetID and password. You'll see your classes listed under the "My Classes" heading. If you follow the link for a specific class, you'll find that "Library Course Reserves" will appear as a link in the maroon frame at the left side of the page. Following that link will lead to a listing of the course reserve materials available through the Library.

- Faculty are encouraged to request
Chalk sites for classes with material on reserve. If Chalk sites are
not requested before reserve requests are processed, the Library will
create these sites on behalf of faculty in order to make reserve materials
available to students.

Overdue Reserve Fines
Because reserve items are used by many people, it is especially important that items are returned on time. You will be charged $1.00 per hour (or part of hour) that a reserve item is overdue, up to $75.00. It is your responsibility to know the date and time your reserve items are due, and to return your reserve items to the correct library. Long overdue reserve material will be marked as lost, and you will be billed for replacement costs (see Lost Book Charges). You may also be billed if a reserve item is returned with missing material or is returned damaged. Reserve fees and fines may be paid at any circulation desk. If left unpaid, reserve fines will become delinquent and your borrowing privileges may be blocked. For more information, consult Paying Fees and Fines.
