Includes
School Report Cards for individual schools and districts in the
State of Illinois. A variety of documents and evaluative reports

- National Center for Education
Statistics (NCES)
Part of the U.S. Department of Education, this is the
major educational statistics agency for the U.S. The NCES website
provides a variety of helpful statistical tools and resources,
including:

Education Data Resource Center (NEDRC)
Established by the
NCES "to provide education information and data to teachers,
researchers, policy makers, faculty, and others who need access to
the most current data collected from major education surveys, and
who cannot take advantage of the available NCES computer products
or who do not have appropriate facilities to process the available
data.serve the education information needs of teachers,
researchers, policy makers, and others who need access to the most
current education data." Data sets and customized tables from many
studies maintained by NCES are currently available through
NEDRC.

Standard and Poor's
This site aims to contain the largest collection of public
education data ever assembled. It includes student achievement
information, financial data, demographics, performance on
standardized tests, teacher salaries, and more. All of the data
come from public sources. It is possible to compare data between
schools, between school districts, states, and with national
averages.
- ChildStats.gov
Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family
Statistics
This resource compiles information on the U.S. child population
from various sources. Information is available on family
characteristics, economic security, health, social environment,
educational indicators and more. Selected international comparisons
are also provided.
- Chronicle of Higher
Education's Facts and Figures
The website of this newspaper makes a wide variety of statistics
available (access restricted to UofC community). Major statistical
reports are included in the annual Almanac of Higher
Education which is printed as a special supplement issue
each August. The Library subscribes to the newspaper online and in
print (current issues in the 2nd floor Reading Room; older issues
are in microforms).

Education Trust
Sponsored a nonprofit organization, this is source of data on
educational performance and equity by race and class, kindergarten
through college.
- Measuring Up:
The State-by-State Report Card for Higher Education
National Center for Public Policy and Higher
Education
Begun in 2000 and repeated every two years, these reports grade
states on their performance in categories such as: preparation,
participation, affordability, completion, and benefits. New for
2006 are sections with international comparisons.

National Education Association
Includes the NES's annual "Rankings and Estimates" report covering
topics such as teacher salaries and expenditures per pupil. This
report ranks the States based on NEA's assessment of the amount of
support for education. Additional data is available in publications
such as the annual NEA
Almanac of Higher Education.
- Social
Statistics Briefing Room--Education
A service of the White House, the briefing room draws upon various
federal studies, including those of the National Center for
Education Statistics and the National Science Foundation, to report
across all educational levels and disciplines.

Surveys
American Federation of Teachers
The annual report
provides state-by-state salary comparisons, beginning teacher
salaries, and salary data for school districts in the nation's 100
largest cities.

United Nations Common Database of Statistics
United Nations Statistics Division
This database compiles a wide array of social and economic
indicators from various international agencies and reports for most
countries of the world. A source
list is available and includes series from theUNESCO
Yearbook, and UNICEF's annual State of the World's
Children.
- Edstats
World Bank
Offers access to statistics produced by
the World Bank and to a compilation from major sources such as the
International Monetary Fund, UNESCO, and OECD. The statistics are
arranged in modules so that they can be retrieved in a variety of
ways. The major modules include country data, thematic data,
regional indicators, World Bank lending, and country at a glance.
Also included is a large listing of links to related resources for
international educational statistics.

Archive of Education Data (IAED)
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the
Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research
(ICPSR)
Supported by the National Center for
Education Statistics (NCES) and the Inter-University Consortium for
Political and Social Reserach (ICPSR), this archive's purpose
is to acquire and make available the data sets, data definitions,
and codebooks useful for education research. The initial
collections of IAED, operated by ICPSR, are the data surveys from
NCES; additional collections will be acquired as they become
available. IAED does not acquire, archive, or distribute the
reports, analyses and statistics that are published based on the
data.
- Global Education
Database
Office of Education of the US Agency for International
Development (USAID)
This source provides data on more than 200 educational indicators
for more that 60 countries. Coverage dates from 1970's to present.
Note that not all variables are available for all countries for all
years. The data is compiled from the UNESCO Institute of
Statistics.
- Eurydice: The
Information Network on Education in Europe
Covers the education systems of the Member States of the European
Union, the three countries of the European Free Trade Association
which are members of the European Economic Area, and the EU
candidate countries involved in the EU Action Programme in the
field of Lifelong Learning. Eurydice collects data and publishes
reports and analyses to compare countries educational systems and
products, and also engages in research on questions of interest to
the European community. You can browse the data by indicator,
country, or topic.
- International Association for the
Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA)
This international cooperative of research agencies conducts
large-scale comparative studies of educational achievement. A list
is available of completed studies, and published reports, but not
the full-text. However, datasets are
available along with an online analyzer. The Library owns print
copies of most previous IEA studies.

Comparisons in Education
From NCES, this site links to the
various international studies and assessments in which the U.S.
participates.

Education
Organization for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD)
OECD conducts studies such as the current Programme for International Student
Assessment (PISA) that surveys the knowledge and skills of
15-year olds and examines factors that influence the development of
these skills at home and school. The organization offers an
Education Database that provides internationally comparable
data on key aspects of education systems. OECD
member countries co-operate to gather the information, to
develop and apply common definitions and criteria for the quality
control of the data, to verify the data and to provide the
information necessary to interpret the submitted data. The Library
subscribes to
SourceOECD which provides the full-text for monographs,
periodicals and statistics produced by the agency.

- World Data
on Education (WDE)
The database World Data on Education includes statistics from the
National Reports on the Development of Education, supplemented with
data from other sources. Five editions (out of print) have been
produced so far. The database contains detailed and systematized
information on education systems of 161 countries worldwide, with a
particular emphasis on curricula and curriculum development
processes. Each individual profile of national education system can
be downloaded in the pdf format.

World Development Indicators
World Bank
This is a database of economic and social indicators, including
educational factors, published annually by the World Bank. Data can
be exported into a spreadsheet.
