Services Available
Reciprocal services include not only borrowing but also reference and guidance using the collections and access to photocopy services. The service does not include interlibrary loan service or remote access to licensed electronic resources.
Borrowing Privileges and Renewals
Chicago faculty may borrow most UIC stacks books for 16 weeks from the date of checkout at the Main, Art & Architecture, Mathematics and Science libraries. UIC stacks books from the Library of the Health Sciences (LHS) and its branches circulate for 2 weeks. There is no limit on the number of renewals.
Books may be recalled at any time; the borrower is guaranteed a minimum one week loan period.
Non-circulating collections include periodicals, audio-visual materials, items on course reserve and items in Special Collections.
Renewals may be requested in person or online by filling out the UIC renewal webform.
Overdues and Fines
Chicago users who hold overdue regular, reserve or recalled UIC library material will have a block placed against their Chicago borrowing privileges until such time as the delinquent material is returned. Replacement fees will be charged for material held beyond its due date. Reciprocal borrowing privileges may be revoked at the discretion of the Library.
Lost book fees are a minimum of $100 per volume. Fine policies vary according to library location, so for specific information about fines, contact Circulation Services at the appropriate UIC library.
Returning Books
Books borrowed from UIC may be returned to any of the University of Chicago libraries. The material will not be "checked in" until it reaches UIC. Accordingly, please calculate the necessary travel time (approximately 7 calendar days) to avoid accruing fines while material is transit.
