Integrating the Life of the Mind – Online!

The popular exhibit “Integrating the Life of the Mind: African Americans at the
University of Chicago, 1870-1940,” as well as other past SCRC exhibits,
is now available online!

“Integrating the Life of the Mind: African Americans at the University of Chicago, 1870-1940,” was on view in the Special Collections Research Center from September 2008 until February 2009. The exhibit was curated by faculty member Danielle Allen.

As the curator notes, "In this exhibit you will learn how the University of Chicago came to be integrated and who its first African American students were. You will see that a few independent-minded administrators and scholars consistently helped clear the path. Finally, you will find that… these alumni commonly took from the University of Chicago a strong conviction that rigorous scholarship serves human progress."
