Paging & Pickup

What is Paging & Pickup?

Current University of Chicago faculty, other academic appointees, postdocs, students, and staff may request Library materials via the Library Catalog to be paged by Library staff and then pick up available items at the library of their choice.

Currently only Law School faculty, students, and staff may request material be picked up at D'Angelo Law Library; only Crown School faculty, students, and staff may request material be picked up at the Social Work Library.

How many items can I request for pickup? How quickly will items be available?

Patrons will be able to request 200 items per quarter through the Library Catalog. Paging & Pickup may only be able to process 5 requests per person per day, depending on staffing and overall request volume.

Our goal is to make materials available within three business days.

What items are eligible for paging?

Items from the circulating collections of all campus libraries are eligible for Paging & Pickup.

Reserve, Reference, Special Collections, and a small number of other categories are not eligible for Paging & Pickup.

Can't find it? Request it for pickup!

If you're unable to find an item on the shelves, you can also submit a paging request. Library staff will search for the item and, if found, make it available for pickup.

How do I submit a paging request?

  1. Find the material you want paged in the Library Catalog.
  2. Under Availability in the full record, select the "Request for Pickup" link. Items without this link are not available for Paging & Pickup.
  3. Login with your CNetID and password.
  4. Choose a Pickup Location
  5. Select the "Submit Request" button.

You will receive an email notification when items are available for pickup at your requested library.

How do I pick up materials once they're available?

Bring your UChicago Card to access the library you selected for pickup and present your card to circulation desk staff to check out your materials.
