Fellow for Papyrology

In collaboration with faculty from Classics and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations a Fellow in Papyrology is being appointed in the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) to work on a special project to describe papyrus pieces in the collection as an aid to scholars in this field of academic interest. The collaborative project between SCRC and Professor Sofia Torallas-Tovar and Professor David Martinez uses the Colwell Claremont Papyri Collection as a training/teaching opportunity for graduate students. Eileen Ielmini, the SCRC point of contact will orient the student to the historical resources within SCRC to provide background on the formation and provenance of the papyrus collection. The Professors will schedule regular sessions throughout the quarter to train the student in the art of transcribing and interpreting the papyrus and collecting relevant information for future scholarly work.
