Music in the University of Chicago Library: Selected for an Exhibition at the Joseph Regenstein Library

Music in the University of Chicago Library

Representative of the Library's music collection, this exhibition includes fine first editions, works of general historical interest, and music manuscripts showing how the contemporary composer works. Most of the Library's music materials are acquired in direct response to scholarly need. Professor Philip Gosset's research in nineteenth century Italian opera has resulted in the gradual accumulation of early editions, and the large number of contemporary Chopin publications reflects the interest of Professor Edward Lowinsky as well as the generosity of the donors to the Rose K. Platzman Memorial Fund.
