Altmetric Is Now Integrated with HeinOnline
In March 2024, Altmetric integrated with HeinOnline. HeinOnline is a comprehensive online research platform containing more than 215 million pages of multidisciplinary periodicals (including over 3,300 scholarly journals), government documents (both current and historical), international resources, case law, and more. With the integration of Altmetric, authors can see a fuller picture of the impact of their work.
What is Altmetric?
Altmetric is a platform that gathers data on the online activity surrounding published research. Altmetric works by tracking research outputs (e.g., journal articles, datasets) that have a unique identifier (e.g., DOI) and are mentioned in a source that Altmetric tracks. Altmetric tracks all kinds of sources, including (but not limited to) citations in other published works, public policy documents, news outlets, Mendeley libraries, patents, and other platforms (e.g., Reddit and Youtube). More information about the sources covered in Altmetric is available here.
How does Altmetric Work with HeinOnline?
In HeinOnline, an Altmetric badge will only appear if an object includes a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and at least 1 metric from one of the outside online sources mentioned above. The badges are updated daily, and users can click on the badge to see the various outlets that reference the article with a link to each reference. Please see the screenshot below for an example.
For more information about the integration, please see this blog post from HeinOnline announcing it. If you have questions about the integration or about other features in HeinOnline (such as ScholarCheck), please don't hesitate to Ask a Law Librarian.
