Earl B. Dickerson Exhibit at the Law School

Earl B. Dickerson yearbook photo

The D’Angelo Law Library has created an exhibit to celebrate the centennial of Earl B. Dickerson, the first African American to earn a J.D. at the Law School. In addition to excerpts from “Remarks by…Dickerson on the Occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr….” it also contains photos of the two men. One photo shows Dickerson at a rally of King’s, another shows King touring Supreme Life’s offices with Dickerson; Supreme Life Insurance Company would become the largest African American owned insurance company in the North. A final photo is of Dickerson sitting in his office at Supreme Life, with a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

As part of the Earl B. Dickerson Centennial, the Law School will host a conference on April 17 and 18, 2020, and is offering independent study opportunities to law students. The D’Angelo Law Library has created a research guide on Dickerson’s life and career.

The exhibit is located near Classroom V.
