General Summary

The Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS) at the UChicago Library empowers the university community with services to support digital publishing, working with research data, and creating digital collections. The CDS brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to applying their intersecting expertise to support the research, teaching, and publishing goals of the UChicago community. The Programming Assistant will provide front-line services for CDS patrons, support the planning, promotion, and coordination of CDS events, and contribute to on-going CDS projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of the CDS, including opening and closing spaces, facilitating bookable collaboration spaces, and greeting patrons
  • Assist with preparation and provide technical and logistical support for virtual and in-person CDS events
  • Work with patrons and Library staff to troubleshoot challenges and provide excellent customer service
  • Support patron use of hardware and equipment by providing access and basic troubleshooting
  • Maintain equipment according to established procedures
  • Communicate problems regarding equipment or services to staff
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a changing environment
  • Ability to learn and communicate technical concepts
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Good organizational skills and high-level attention to detail
  • Sensitivity to handling fragile library materials and technologies
  • General proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office, E-mail, library catalog and database searching, Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams)
  • Enthusiasm for learning new techniques and technologies and applying them to help others
  • Interest in digital librarianship, digital scholarship, or digital collections is a plus
