Director's Office

The University of Chicago Library is led by Brenda Johnson, Library Director and University Librarian, who reports to the Provost. The Library Director is advised by three external consultative bodies, The Library Board and The Library Council and The Library Student Advisory Group.


The Library Director chairs the Director's Council and works closely with them to provide strategic leadership and administration of the library:

  • David Borycz, Assistant University Librarian for Administrative Services
  • Jennifer Green, Associate University Librarian for Research & Learning
  • Elisabeth Long, Associate University Librarian for Information Technology & Digital Scholarship
  • James Mouw, Associate University Librarian for Collections & Access

The Library values participation in consortia and partnerships as an integral part of how it develops and provides services. The Library Director is an active participant in both the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation (IPLC) and the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) and serves on the Board of the Chicago Collections Consortium.
