Work Schedule: 10hrs/wk (Mon-Fri 8:30am- 5pm)

General Summary

Works in the Receiving and Rapid Cataloging unit of the Acquisitions Section assisting with the receipt of monographic material in a variety of print and media formats and languages except for Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Performs routine workflows that help the Library convey these resources into the library collection for patron use.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving monographs
  • Assist with accessioning gift materials
  • Assist with matching incoming monographs to existing OCLC records.
  • Assist with importing new bibliographic records
  • Assist with unpacking shipments and shelving unpacked material in proper processing queue
  • Assist with distributing foreign language bibliographic items according to Rapid Cataloging Criteria
  • Assisting and participating in appropriate problem referral and resolution
  • Assist with data entry using Google Sheets, Excel, and FOLIO library system
  • Other duties within the scope of departmental tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Reading knowledge of at least one foreign language from this list: Arabic, Croatian, Czech, German, French, Italian, Persian, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, or Hebrew.
  • Graduate student standing; preferably from Germanic Studies program, Slavic Languages & Literatures, Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations.
  • Clerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit for long periods
  • Must be able to visually focus on print and electronic material for long periods
  • Lift 50lbs
