While the sound effects of Super Metroid are well done, the futuristic weapons and mechanized doors tend to blend into a familiar science-fiction cacophony. The music, on the other hand, is consistently surprising and memorable. Each major area of the environment has its own major theme. Some are dark, spare, and uncharacteristically restrained for a game of the period. Some are far more upbeat than the gameplay would suggest.
