About this Exhibit

Exhibition Dates: May 2001 - December 2001

Building for a Long Future:  The University of Chicago and Its Donors, 1889-1930 is based on correspondence, minutes, photographs, architectural plans, and other historical records in the University of Chicago Archives in the Special Collections Research Center.  Additional materials are drawn from the manuscript collections and rare book collection in Special Collections and the general collection of the University of Chicago Library.

This exhibition exploring the character and benefactions of the early donors to the University of Chicago was undertaken at the initiative of John W. Boyer, Dean of the College of the University of Chicago and Martin A. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of History and the College.  Brandon L. Johnson conducted the archival research and wrote the text for the exhibition.  Additional research and writing was contributed by Daniel Meyer, John W. Boyer, and Alice Schreyer.

This Web exhibit was produced by Joe Scott with the assistance of Kevin Kimura.
