My name is Martin Muñoz. I am so honored to have joined broken together.

Broken together has taught me to better understand myself as well as how to understand others. I’ll be honest, when I first started I had a mixture of feelings, anxiety and nervousness. But through time this group has given me the confidence to speak about my thoughts and feelings.

My grandma has recently passed away, and taking what I’ve learned in the class, has allowed me to further empathize with other people. I have also learned to better understand what empathy is which has helped me to better understand someone else’s feelings and to see individuals as equals and understanding that we can help each other.

Due to my participation in broken together I’ve become a better person by way of the coping skills used to defuse situations before they escalate into something more.

I truly appreciate the stories shared [page 2] during group as they allowed me to look at myself in a more critical light. Hearing their stories has allowed me to grow on many levels, allowing me to use some of the tools I’ve learned in group.

Being in group has also taught me how to manage my anger. In addition it has provided me the insight to know who I should allow in my circle. I am able to see now that some of the people I consider a homies were not my friends, and that comes with growing. Being in group has taught me that positive energy begets positive energy. In the simplest term: Birds of a feather flock together.”

To the fact that even on a personal level I cannot let the denial of my transfer to ATC bring me down because I’ve learned to cope with disappointments. And because of that I can always look at a positive and move forward as a person.

In conclusion I would like to thank the people who helped me through my journey and broken together. In particular I want to thank Luis for encouraging me to take the class and being a role model. Much love your friend -Martin-
